ABOUT "THE YELLOW HOUSE" - SHELTON-LOCKEBY HOUSE

A Home Rooted in Arkansas Heritage

Built in 1905 and nestled near Murfreesboro, The Yellow House stands as one of the few remaining dogtrot-style homes in Arkansas. Originally lived in by James and Lula Ann Lockeby, the home served as a working farm and a warm gathering place for family, neighbors, and friends. Its history reflects the heart of rural Southern life — simplicity, hard work, and the spirit of community.

Preserved Craftsmanship & Original Character

The Yellow House retains its original floor plan, weatherboard siding, breezeway, porches, and wood floors — making it a rare architectural treasure. Supported by fieldstone piers and topped with a tin gable roof, it features four-over-four wood windows, hand-built chimneys reconstructed with their original bricks, and a full-length front porch designed for both work and rest. Every detail reflects the care and craftsmanship of early 20th-century farm life.

A Living Legacy

Lovingly restored and recognized on the National Register of Historic Places, The Yellow House continues to tell the story of Arkansas heritage. Today, guests can explore its preserved rooms, learn about the Lockeby family, and experience a rare, tangible connection to the region’s past. As the heart of Springhill Farm, it remains a place where memories are honored, stories are shared, and history lives on.
